It occurred to me that in order for you to more fully trust my reviews and thoughts on Christian fiction, it might be helpful for you to know exactly what it is I believe! While not exhaustive, I resonate with this statement of faith written by an outreach called Living Waters. I was saved as a little girl, roughly about six years old. I remember sitting in the dark of my room, looking up at the walls, thinking about God. My parents and brothers talked to me often about Christ and the Bible, and I went to Sunday school every week, so I was thinking about what they had told me: how God is perfect and holy; how we sin (or “do bad things”, as I thought in six-year-old terms). How Christ came and died on the cross, took a punishment he didn’t deserve so that we wouldn’t have to take the one we do– separation from Him, eternal death. That it was a gift. It came to me for the first time in my entire life that I had heard these things and sort of believed they were true, but I had never believed them for myself. It’s a hard feeling to describe– reminiscent of the first time I stood on a lake shore about to get into a canoe. Heart trembling, I had to decide if I really believed that little swaying boat could hold me and keep me safe. I could watch everyone else gliding around all day long, but I had to truly trust it for myself enough to actually step out above that water and get inside. Back in my room, I chose to believe God, and stepped out as I asked him to forgive me and come into my heart.
