Turn Back the Page Thursdays

Turn Back the Page Thursdays

This is a new idea of mine, but every week on Thursday I would like to post a vintage picture accompanied by a Bible verse, quote, or poem! I almost named this “Beautiful In Its Time Thursdays”, inspired by Ecclesiastes 3:11:

 He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also He has put eternity in their hearts, except that no one can find out the work that God does from beginning to end.

In some ways I don’t like the cutesy day-of-the-week post themes, but I think it will be helpful to remember when to check back in for a lovely picture and message! This week, the first posting of it’s kind, take a bite out of this fresh photo straight from 1983.

First Review!

IMG_20180218_112849

Cousin Albert held out his hand for the photograph. I swallowed and gave it to him. There were two letters in the envelope; one I knew to be Emily’s writing. I looked away. If the other was from Ma I couldn’t bear it. I’d prayed for a letter from her for nearly a year. That Cousin Albert should have both a letter and a photograph, when I had neither, made me hate him. And then I hated myself. What was I thinking, grudging a dying man the only air he wanted?

Welcome!

Psalm 101:1
I will sing of mercy and justice;
To You, O Lord, will I sing praises.

Let me express my gratitude that you are here on apageoutofherbook.com today! My name is Rebekah, and this blog was conceived when I struggled to discover good, engaging Christian fiction books to read and couldn’t find much online to help me. I’m hoping it will honor our Savior, encourage fellow Christian readers, and bring me joy as I read and share. (The last is already being fulfilled!)

If you want to know more about me, my beliefs, or the purpose of this blog, please head up to the menu and start exploring! For now, let me list some of the things you can look forward to in future posts:

  • Christian fiction book reviews! This will be the backbone of the site, with tentatively at least one full-length review a month. I endeavor (let’s see how well I hold out!) to select from a wide range of sub-genres, from historical to suspense, in order to interest different readers. My plan is to rate books from 1-5 stars; books with less than three stars will be categorized as “Fiction Flops” and receive a brief (rather than in-depth) review.
  • Author spotlights and interviews! I am blessed to already have one published author who has agreed to a written interview! I’ll let the mystery build, but suffice it to say she has been a Christy award finalist twice and I’m very excited to hear from her soon. My desire is that you will discover new authors as I showcase a variety and have fun hearing from the authors you already love, but I’m still experimenting with how to implement my thoughts…
  • Literary-related ramblings and news!

I have a lot more ideas (Book giveaways? Guest Book Reviewers? Polls? Book Hauls?), but you’ll have to stick around to see how they play out. 😉 Feel free to comment and let me know what you would like to see. Lord allowing, I would like to post about once a week, and no later than every two weeks–with my first book review posted this Monday.

Incredibly Grateful,
Rebekah
